New Zealand has outlined the eligibility requirements and application process for its Accredited Employer Work Visa (AEWV), which allows overseas workers to take up jobs with approved employers in the country.
The visa permits eligible foreign workers to work for at least 30 hours a week for an accredited New Zealand employer.
Visa duration:
Depending on the nature of the job, skill level, and salary, applicants may be allowed to remain in New Zealand for up to five years, which may also provide a pathway towards permanent residence
Visa holders will also be allowed to study for up to three months in any 12 months, or undertake training that is required for their employment.
Eligibility:
Applicants should have a confirmed job offer from an accredited New Zealand employer.
Under New Zealand rules, employers and recruitment agents are not allowed to charge workers recruitment costs or other unlawful fees.
Applicants generally need either at least two years of relevant, verifiable work experience or a qualification at Level 4 or above on the New Zealand Qualifications Framework.
A CV alone is not considered sufficient evidence of work experience. Applicants may be required to provide supporting documents such as employment certificates, pay slips and tax records.
Applicants for jobs classified at skill levels 4 or 5 may also be required to demonstrate English-language proficiency.
Medical examinations, including chest X-rays, and police clearance certificates may also be required.
How to apply
Once an accredited employer offers a job, the applicant is sent a unique online application link or job token.
Applicants have to prepare scanned copies of their supporting documents, including police and medical certificates, along with English translations where required.
The application is then completed online using the designated link. Applicants must upload the required documents and pay the visa application fee, which starts at NZ$1,540.
New Zealand immigration authorities say 80% of applications are processed within six weeks, although processing times can vary.
Successful applicants are issued an electronic visa.
