PESHAWAR: The body of a girl, identified as Iqra, was found hanging from a tree near Khyber Teaching Hospital, SP Cantt said.
According to the police officer, the incident does not initially appear to be a suicide. Iqra’s mother was found at the scene in suspicious circumstances, the SP said.
The investigation revealed that the girl was unmarried and pregnant, according to SP Cantt.
The officer said the mother claimed that her daughter had expressed a desire to commit suicide.
However, the mother admitted that she had helped her daughter hang herself from the tree, the SP said.
Police suspect that more people may be involved in the incident.
The police have also obtained CCTV footage of the incident, according to SP Cantt.
The officer said the incident would be investigated fully and on merit.
A similar tragic incident was reported in Nusrat Bhutto Colony in the North Nazimabad neighborhood, where a woman committed suicide after being distressed by comments made by her mother-in-law.
According to the Shahrah-e-Noor Jahan police, the woman took her own life by shooting herself with a firearm. Police have since arrived at the scene and gathered evidence.
Authorities added that the woman took the extreme step after becoming disheartened following a domestic argument with her mother-in-law.
The body has been shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for legal formalities, police confirmed.
Investigators have recovered the weapon used in the incident, and further inquiries into the woman’s death are currently underway.
