Presley Gerber’s final moments remain under examination by authorities as the 27-year-old son of supermodel Cindy Crawford and businessman Rande Gerber was found dead at a Santa Monica recovery center.
Los Angeles County sheriff’s officials said in an initial report that first responders rushed to a sober living facility Sunday morning after reports of a cardiac arrest and possible drug overdose.
Gerber was declared dead at the scene. An investigation into the circumstances of his death is still ongoing, the report indicated.
Official cause of death still not finalized following an autopsy by the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office. Toxicology tests and additional lab work are still in process.
Gerber had spoken publicly about his struggles with mental health and substance use, sharing regularly on social media about his recovery and struggles with addiction.
Some experts, both medical and legal, say that deaths at residential treatment programs point to a broader issue, which is how residents are monitored and safe while they are in recovery and also at risk of relapse.
