WASHINGTON: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif met delegations of the Pakistani community and young people residing in the United States during his visit to the country.
Representatives and heads of various youth organisations, including those working in healthcare, information technology, artificial intelligence and other sectors, attended the meetings.
The prime minister invited the participants to put forward practical suggestions for improving various sectors and promoting the development and welfare of Pakistan’s youth.
“Talented Pakistani youth living abroad are a source of pride for me and the entire nation,” Prime Minister Shehbaz said.
He expressed his conviction that Pakistan’s youth have the potential to transform the country’s future.
The prime minister said the government was continuing to take measures to empower young people by providing training in information technology and other modern skills.
He said the government was providing opportunities to young people through laptops, scholarships and Daanish Schools.
Prime Minister Shehbaz said the government was also working to establish a world-class Daanish University following the provision of quality education through Daanish Schools.
He welcomed all suggestions aimed at promoting the development and welfare of Pakistan’s youth.
Members of the Pakistani youth community appreciated the prime minister’s initiatives for youth development, particularly measures aimed at promoting information technology and facilitating businesses.
Earlier, Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to further strengthening its broad-based partnership with the European Union and to the full implementation of the Pakistan-EU Strategic Engagement Plan.
He was talking to President of the European Council Antonio Luis Santos da Costa and President of the European Commission Ursula Gertrud von der Leyen on the sidelines of the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
The leaders reviewed the full spectrum of Pakistan-European Union relations and expressed satisfaction at the growing momentum in high-level exchanges and engagement between Pakistan and the EU.
The Prime Minister underscored the importance of sustained leadership-level engagement in providing greater direction and momentum to the relationship.
He highlighted the importance of GSP Plus for Pakistan’s economic development, employment generation and trade with the European Union, and reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to continued engagement with the EU under the framework.
