KARACHI: A police officer was martyred in firing by drug dealers near Block 1 of Clifton in Karachi, ARY News reported on Sunday, citing police officials.
According to details, police authorities said the firing took place during a raid on a suspected drug den. The body of the deceased officer, identified as Wahab Khattak, was shifted to a private hospital.
Sindh Inspector General of Police Javed Alam Odho took notice of the officer’s killing and sought reports from the Additional Inspector General (AIG) Karachi and Deputy Inspector General (DIG) South.
He directed authorities to immediately arrest those responsible for the officer’s killing.
The Sindh IGP said indiscriminate and decisive action should be taken against the suspects and their facilitators. He said the slain officer’s sacrifice would not go in vain and that those responsible must be brought to justice.
Sindh Home Minister Zia-ul-Hassan Lanjar also took notice of the police officer’s killing and sought a report from the DIG South.

He directed authorities to arrest the suspects immediately and take action against them without discrimination.
Earlier this year, a police constable was martyred and another injured during an exchange of fire with armed robbers near the Manghopir canal area in Karachi.
According to police, the incident occurred when officers attempted to stop two suspicious motorcyclists in Karachi. The suspects opened fire, leading to a gun battle in which Constable Khadim embraced martyrdom, while another policeman, Tufail, sustained injuries.
The attackers fled the scene while firing.
SSP West Tariq Ilahi said the injured officer’s statement has been recorded, confirming that the encounter began when police signaled the armed suspects to stop. He added that evidence collected from the site in Karachi includes spent bullet casings of 30-bore and 9mm weapons.
