A dramatic moment from the WNBA playoffs extended past the baseline and drew a subtle retort from Indiana Fever guard Sophie Cunningham.

After Wilson confronted a courtside fan and was tagged with a technical foul following a physical play late in the Indiana Fever’s 99-89 win over the Las Vegas Aces, Wilson addressed her teammates after the game as to what transpired with a seated observer.

Details of What Caused the Confrontation?

Following the foul call during her drive against Cunningham during a play late in the fourth quarter, the Aces star was tagged with a technical foul after she was challenged by the fan .A’ja Wilson finds way to get her tech, told she’s got respect for her but she does not know her.

Wilson told teammates after the game there was a fan who snared the foul on her and started talking to her:

“You don’t know me at all. To come and step toward me and point at me and say anything… You don’t have to like me, you don’t have to love me. You can hate me with all your heart.

But you don’t know me.
But I guarantee you will respect me.” According to reports and video shared from inside the arena, the fan pointed toward Wilson while yelling, “It’s on you!” before being told to calm down by another guest.

Arena security did take the fan from his seat to look into a possible violation of the rules for spectators. After interviewing witnesses and reviewing footage, the Indiana Fever released this statement, explaining why the fan was allowed back:

“Following a report of a comment directed toward a player, arena security spoke with the fan involved and witnesses. Security determined there was no violation of the Fan Code of Conduct, the fan was not removed from the arena.

We consider the matter closed.”
Sophie Cunningham Quietly Replies After Courtside Fan Confrontation Known for her feisty presence on and off the court, Cunningham chose not to respond to the incident and instead simply reposted on X (formerly Twitter) a report of the fan’s account of what happened, which said that the fan’s comment was only directed to the foul call. It’s Game 3, series still up for grabs.
