ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) has decided to seek a legal opinion regarding its authority over the MDCAT after receiving a letter from Federal Minister for Health Syed Mustafa Kamal, who directed a probe into MDCAT-related matters in Sindh, ARY News reported.

The PMDC has sought the opinion of its legal department regarding its statutory powers over the MDCAT.

The regulatory body responsible for medical education in the country stated that it will act on the health minister’s instructions based on the legal advice received.

According to sources, the PMDC noted that it has limited operational authority regarding the MDCAT, adding that it is not directly responsible for the conduct of the examination. The PMDC clarified that the authorized medical university holding the exam is responsible for investigating any issues.

However, the council affirmed that it would extend every possible cooperation regarding the investigation into the MDCAT in Sindh.

It further noted that the conducting universities are responsible for MDCAT paper preparation, printing, storage, transportation, and examination administration.

Sources added that the PMDC has not received any direct complaints regarding the MDCAT.

Federal Minister Syed Mustafa Kamal took notice last week of complaints concerning the MDCAT results in Sindh, after which he directed an inquiry into MDCAT 2026.
