KARACHI: The Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA) has restored its town-level administrative structure in Karachi, replacing the district-level system that had been in place since 2010.
Under the new arrangement, the SBCA has reorganised its administrative setup according to Karachi’s 25 towns and appointed directors, deputy directors, assistant directors and senior building inspectors to manage affairs at the town level.
According to the SBCA, the move aims to improve the building control system, prevent illegal construction and ensure transparent handling of administrative matters at the town level.
The authority has divided its administrative structure among Baldia, Chanesar, Gadap, Mominabad, Mauripur, Nazimabad, North Karachi, North Nazimabad, Orangi, Saddar, Safura, Shah Faisal, Sohrab Goth, Gulberg, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Ibrahim Hyderi, Jinnah, Korangi, Landhi, Liaquatabad, Lyari, Malir, Manghopir and Model Colony towns.
The SBCA said the revised structure would help enforce building regulations and ensure the prompt resolution of public complaints.
The town-level system was previously in place during the tenures of former Karachi nazims Naimatullah Khan and Mustafa Kamal, when the city had 18 towns.
In 2010, following the appointment of Manzoor Qadir as SBCA director general, the town-level system was discontinued and the authority shifted to a district-based administrative structure.
