MURREE: Seven members of the same family were killed and seven others injured after their vehicle plunged into a ravine and caught fire on Rakhala Road in Murree, ARY News reported.
According to rescue officials, 14 people, including children, elderly people and women, were travelling in the vehicle when it fell into the ravine and caught fire. Seven people died after suffering severe burns, while the other seven sustained burn injuries.
The family was returning from a wedding ceremony when the accident occurred.
The incident comes months after 10 people were killed and eight others injured when a passenger van carrying tourists caught fire near Kahjoot on Murree Expressway in June 2026.
Murree District Police Officer Dr Muhammad Raza had said the van lost control due to overspeeding and struck a roadside safety barrier. The impact caused the vehicle’s fuel tank to burst, and leaking petrol caused the van to catch fire within seconds.
He said the impact was so severe that the passengers inside the vehicle did not get a chance to escape, resulting in the loss of lives.
Authorities said the eight injured people in that incident were shifted to Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) in Islamabad for treatment.
