ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) parliamentary party has decided to conditionally support the proposed 28th Constitutional Amendment if party founder Imran Khan is released, sources told ARY News.

According to sources, the decision was taken during a parliamentary party meeting, where the majority of participants supported linking the party’s backing for the amendment to Imran Khan’s release.

The meeting also decided to form a six-member steering committee to address matters related to access to Imran Khan and his medical treatment.

Opposition leaders Mahmood Khan Achakzai and Allama Raja Nasir Abbas will head the steering committee, sources said.

The committee will also negotiate with the government and relevant individuals to resolve these matters.

According to sources, the committee will include two members of the National Assembly and two senators, with one representative each from Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Earlier, in the same meeting, several PTI lawmakers left the committee room amid heated exchanges.

The meeting, which had been underway at Parliament House for seven hours, witnessed tension as party members discussed internal differences, negotiations with the government and preparations for a long march.

Sources said Faisal Amin Khan, brother of Ali Amin Gandapur, left the meeting in anger and shut the committee room door forcefully as he walked out.

PTI MNA Khawaja Sheraz also left the committee room. When other members called out to him, he replied that he would return after answering a phone call.

Ali Muhammad Khan and Shehryar Afridi also left the meeting. Responding to a journalist’s question, Ali Muhammad Khan said he would return after taking a phone call, while Shehryar Afridi said he was going to offer prayers.
