ISLAMABAD: The Ministry of National Health Services, Regulations and Coordination (MoNHSRC) has converted the dismissal of a Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) employee over corruption charges into compulsory retirement, according to sources.
Sources at PIMS said Grade-16 employee Maqboolur Rehman, who served as a private secretary in the Department of General Surgery, had been dismissed after an inquiry found him guilty of issuing fake house job certificates to house officers.
According to the sources, the inquiry confirmed that 24 fake house job certificates had been issued in exchange for money. Financial transactions in his bank account were also reportedly verified during the investigation.
The sources further claimed that Maqbool had admitted to the corruption allegations during the inquiry.
PIMS management had initiated disciplinary proceedings against him, and former Executive Director Professor Imran Sikandar issued his dismissal order on May 30 under the Civil Servants Rules.

Sources said Maqbool was due to retire on May 30 and the Health Ministry has now issued an order converting his dismissal into compulsory retirement.
Under the revised decision, Rehman will be entitled to pension and other retirement benefits, which he would have forfeited had the dismissal remained in force, according to PIMS sources.
The ministry’s decision has raised questions about the grounds for modifying the disciplinary penalty despite the findings of the original inquiry.
