The liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) associations in Karachi have announced a nationwide strike from 16 November 2026, warning that businesses across the country will be shut down if the government fails to accept their demands within 15 days.

Ali Haider, Chairman of the LPG Marketers Association, said the government had introduced a new pricing formula for LPG, which could increase prices by 25 to 30 per cent.

He said the bureaucracy had decided to apply the rate of LPG imported through sea routes across the country.

According to Ali Haider, around 90 per cent of LPG supplies in Pakistan are currently transported through bowsers.

He added that the new pricing formula would also make domestically produced LPG, which accounts for around 30 per cent of the country’s supply, significantly more expensive.

The announcement followed an emergency meeting of LPG associations held today, during which all participating associations rejected the government’s new pricing formula.
