Unprovoked firing from Afghan border posts targeting Pakistani border posts is continuing, Deputy Commissioner South Waziristan said.

According to the deputy commissioner, Pakistani security forces responded immediately and effectively to the firing and targeted several Afghan border posts, mortar positions and defence posts.

He said Afghan Taliban personnel abandoned their posts and fled following the strong response from Pakistani forces.

The deputy commissioner said no casualties had been reported on the Pakistani side in the border areas so far.

He added that Pakistani forces were fully prepared to respond to any form of aggression.

Earlier, Director General Inter-Services Public Relations (DG ISPR) Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry said that India is the biggest sponsor of terrorism in Pakistan, accusing the Afghan Taliban regime of acting as India’s proxy.

In an interview with Reuters, the DG ISPR said the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) were also Indian proxies operating against Pakistan.

He said the Afghan Taliban used hired fighters to achieve their nefarious objectives, adding that non-state actors were still running Afghanistan under the current regime.

Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry said several agencies and proxies had established their roots in Afghanistan following Russian intervention. Terrorist organisations such as Jaish al-Adl, Al-Qaeda and Islamic State Khorasan Province (ISKP) were also present in the country.

He said the United Nations and the United States had also pointed to the presence of terrorist groups in Afghanistan.

The DG ISPR said Pakistan’s demand from the Afghan Taliban was to stop supporting terrorists operating inside Pakistan. He alleged that the Afghan Taliban regime had provided shelter to terrorists, including Noor Wali Mehsud, Bashir Zeb and Gul Bahadur.

He further said terrorist formations entered Pakistan from Afghanistan and received weapons from there.

“If the Taliban regime does not listen to us on terrorism, it will have to pay a serious price,” he warned.

Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry said the Afghan Taliban regime had no credibility at the international level. He urged the international community to compel the Afghan regime to behave like a normal state.
