Punjab has introduced Pakistan’s first fully electric mechanical sweeper truck for road cleaning and washing, in a move aimed at reducing pollution and promoting environmentally friendly urban services.
Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif inaugurated the vehicle, inspected its features, and witnessed a demonstration of its operation. She was also briefed on the project.
Officials said the electric sweeper truck would initially be deployed on Lahore Ring Road for road cleaning and washing.
They added that, for the first time in Pakistan, the fully electric sweeper, also known as a broomer, would be equipped to absorb and remove water from road surfaces.
The vehicle can travel up to 70 kilometres on a single charge, according to the briefing.
Its zero-carbon emissions are expected to help reduce air pollution, while its cleaning operations will also minimize dust on roads.
Officials said the electric vehicle would help cut noise pollution because of its quieter operation. It is also expected to reduce fuel and maintenance costs significantly.
