KARACHI: The Sindh government on Friday kept in abeyance its earlier decision to accept the voluntary withdrawal from promotion of 63 Sub-Registrars of the Revenue Department.
The Revenue Department issued an order stating that its August 25, 2026 order accepting the withdrawal of 63 Sub-Registrars (BS-15) from promotion to the post of Inspector of Registration (BS-17) would remain “in abeyance till further orders.”
The development came after a report by ARY News highlighted the unusual decision of the officials to decline promotion to the higher grade. Following the report, Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah took notice of the matter, according to the department.
Sub-Registrars perform key functions relating to property transactions, including the registration of houses, land and commercial and office properties.

Earlier, the Sindh government had accepted the requests of 63 Sub-Registrars to withdraw from the promotion process and continue serving in BS-15.
The officials had been recommended for promotion to the post of Inspector of Registration (BS-17) under the applicable service rules and eligibility criteria.
The earlier decision was taken on the recommendation of the Departmental Promotion Committee, which met on May 6, 2026, with the approval of the competent authority, the Minister in charge of Revenue, Sindh.
The decision has drawn attention on social media, with users questioning why the officials chose to remain in BS-15 instead of accepting promotion to BS-17.
However, the latest order does not cancel the promotion process or state that the officials have been promoted. It only places the department’s earlier order accepting their withdrawal from promotion in abeyance until further orders.
