KARACHI, August 31, 2026: The family of young businessman Mir Raza has demanded the formation of a Joint Investigation Team (JIT) to ensure a transparent investigation into the case, ARY News reported.
Mir Raza family’s lawyer Jibran Nasir said the government’s lawyer had admitted that the judicial commission was not formed to conduct an investigation into the case.
He said the commission would only conduct its own inquiry and carry out fact-finding. Nasir added that questions which should be asked of the police were instead being asked of the petitioners.
Jibran Nasir said the scope and Terms of Reference of the judicial commission were initially not clear. He said the government’s lawyer also accepted that the judicial commission was not meant for the investigation of the case and would only conduct an inquiry and establish facts.
According to Nasir, the court repeatedly asked the Sindh government whether it had any objection to the formation of a JIT.
He said the Sindh government stated that the matter was not a competition and that it shared the family’s grief. However, Nasir said the provincial government opposed the formation of a JIT, maintaining that there was no legal provision for it.
The lawyer questioned why the Sindh government believed that the family was accusing the entire provincial government of involvement in the murder.
Nasir said the Sindh government was made up of more than just the chief minister and included several ministers and secretaries. He said it was possible that an individual at some level could be involved in or supporting the killers, and the matter should therefore be properly investigated.
