ISLAMABAD: Pakistan on Friday categorically rejected assertions made by the Indian Ministry of External Affairs regarding a Hindu temple in the Adda Siraj area of Narowal, terming them “false and politically motivated.”
“Contrary to the false propaganda being peddled by India, the temple’s structure was damaged on July 21, 2026, due to torrential rains. Local authorities have already surveyed the damage caused by the rains and initiated steps for the restoration of the building,” Foreign Office spokesperson Sajjad Haider Khan said in a statement while responding to media queries on the matter.
He said it was “shameful” that India was distorting facts and resorting to “cheap gimmicks.”
The spokesperson said such deliberate distortion of facts could not divert attention from India’s “abysmal record of systematic persecution of minorities and state-sponsored attacks against their places of worship.”
“The world is well aware of the weaponisation of Hindutva ideology against minorities and must hold the Indian leadership accountable for the persecution of Muslim, Sikh and Christian communities,” he added.
Earlier, Amnesty International said on Monday that Indian police had used excessive force, including electric shock devices and pellet guns, against youth-led protests that had forced the education minister to resign the previous month.

The rights group’s report contradicted the police account that force was used only after protesters turned violent. It also came after India’s Supreme Court established a panel on Thursday to investigate violence involving both police and demonstrators.
Demonstrations in New Delhi, triggered by the leak of the national medical entrance examination, turned violent on July 20 when thousands of protesters attempted to march towards Parliament.
