ISLAMABAD: Senator Saifullah Abro on Monday told the Senate standing committee for interior that the FBR was not ready to take action against the “in-house” corruption and irregularities.
Speaking in the senate body’s session, chaired by Senator Faisal Saleem, Saifullah Abro said that the corruption and irregularities within the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), has been entrusted to the FIA for probe.
Senator Abro said that an inquiry has also been conducted about an advertisement with regard to alleged one-billion-dollar cigarette tax evasion. “The probe found that the tax theft was not one-billion dollar but 40 billion rupees”.
He told the session that the FBR also refused to submit data of the Pakistan Tobacco Company. “The prime minister was mis-briefed, why this happens, this matter should also be looked into”.
“You should also look into this matter,” the chairman committee also told to the minister of state for interior.
“The whistle blower, who informed about the tax theft was also removed from the office,” Saifullah Abro said.
He said that when the issue of the Senate society was raised, our staff and the house hindered in the matter.
Senator Abro lauded the efforts of the FIA officials.
