KARACHI: Wheat and flour prices have increased once again in Karachi following a rise in wheat prices, ARY News reported.
Flour mills have increased the rates of fine and No. 2.5 flour.
The price of No. 2.5 flour has increased by Rs15 per kilogram, taking the flour mills’ rate to Rs145 per kilogram. Its retail price has reached up to Rs160 per kilogram.
Fine flour has also become Rs13 per kilogram more expensive, with the flour mills’ rate reaching Rs155 per kilogram. Fine flour is being sold at up to Rs175 per kilogram in the retail market.
The price of chakki flour has increased by Rs10 per kilogram and is now being sold for up to Rs180 per kilogram.
Wheat has also become Rs15 per kilogram more expensive, with its price reaching Rs130 per kilogram.
Flour mills said it was not possible to buy expensive wheat and sell flour at the government-fixed rate.
The flour mills have demanded that the government immediately import 2 million tonnes of wheat.
Earlier, the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) notified an increase of 52 paisas per unit in electricity prices under the quarterly adjustment mechanism.
According to the notification, the increase will put an additional burden of Rs12.67 billion on electricity consumers.
Consumers will have to make additional payments in September, October and November under the quarterly adjustment.
The increase will also apply to K-Electric consumers, NEPRA said.
However, the additional charge will not be applicable to lifeline consumers.
The revised electricity tariff has been notified under the quarterly adjustment mechanism.
