Minister for Information Technology (IT) in Pakistan, Shiza Fatima, has announced three changes to the government’s fuel relief scheme, aimed at expanding access to subsidized petrol.
Speaking at a news conference in Islamabad, Fatima said the government had removed previous restrictions on the scheme on the instructions of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
Registration messages for the scheme have also been made free of charge, she said.
Under the revised scheme, people buying less than five litres of petrol will be eligible for a weekly discount of Rs.500.
Motorcycles, rickshaws and Chingchi three-wheelers registered after 1 January 2006 will also be eligible, Shiza Fatima said. The previous limit of five litres of petrol per token has been removed.
The minister also urged citizens not to share sensitive information or personal data with unverified individuals or sources while registering for the scheme.
According to IT minister, around 1.75 million people registered for the scheme between 14 and 19 September 2026. Two- and three-wheeled vehicles accounted for 91.66 percent of all registrations.
She said a record 511,960 people registered in a single day on 18 September.
So far, 655,057 people across Pakistan have received fuel under the scheme, the minister added.
