The Federal Minister for Information of Pakistan, Attaullah Tarar, has accused the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government of failing to address the province’s deteriorating security situation, alleging that Chief Minister Sohail Afridi appears more like a TTP commander than a chief minister.
Speaking at a press conference, Tarar lashed out at the KP government and its chief minister (CM), accusing them of being ignorant of the security situation in the province and reluctant to take measures to restore law and order.
He alleged that militants had attacked political parties across the province but claimed that the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), which governs KP, had been treated favorably by militant groups.
“The facilitation of terrorists has remained part of their policy,” Tarar alleged.
He also accused the provincial government of facilitating the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and said CM Afridi’s statements and actions made him appear more like a TTP commander than a chief minister.
Tarar also alleged that the PTI was a B team of the TTP and a C team of the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Afghanistan (TTA).
The Federal Information Minister criticized the KP government for what he described as a failure to condemn militant violence and cross-border attacks.
Referring to recent firing from Afghanistan into Pakistan in Kurram, he said the PTI had failed to condemn the incident and accused Sohail Afridi of not speaking out against Afghan aggression.
“The responsibility for maintaining law and order rests with the KP government,” Tarar said, accusing Afridi and the provincial administration of being “facilitators of terrorists”.
He also criticized the provincial government over police reforms, alleging that it was attempting to politicize the KP police.
Tarar also challenged the PTI to hold a protest, referring to its previous demonstrations. “They ran away from the protest. If they have the courage, they should come and hold one, they are coward” he said.
