ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari has approved the Islamabad Capital Territory Safe City Ordinance for protection of safe-city cameras and surveillance Infrastructure.
The law imposes heavy fines over damaging the safe-city cameras and surveillance Infrastructure.
Heavy fines of up to two million per camera could be imposed over the perpetrators for damaging the safe-city cameras and the surveillance Infrastructure.
Under the ordinance, a penalty may also be imposed for damaging the safe city cameras and surveillance infrastructure, or for inciting or encouraging such damage.
In the event of damage occurring during rallies, processions, sit-ins, protests, strikes, or gatherings, the organizers may also be held responsible for the damage.
The fine and the cost of damage will be fixed by an authorized officer after providing opportunity for a hearing.
The concerned person shall have the right to appeal against the fine or the cost of damage before the district and sessions judge, Islamabad, within 30 days.
In the event of non-payment of the imposed fine or damage amount, it may be recovered as arrears of the land revenue.
The amount collected as fines and compensation for damage will be spent on the repair and replacement of the safe city cameras and surveillance infrastructure.
