ISLAMABAD: Negotiations between Pakistan’s Ministry of Finance and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) are set to begin on Monday and are expected to continue until October 7, sources told ARY News.
According to sources, special sessions on the petroleum levy will be held with the IMF during the talks.
The fourth review of the performance under the existing loan programme will be conducted during the first week, sources said.
The IMF delegation will also meet Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb, according to sources.
Policy-level discussions for securing the next loan tranche will be held in the first week of October, sources said.
The IMF will also be briefed on Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s petrol subsidy scheme.
According to sources, Pakistan will brief the IMF on tax and non-tax revenues recorded until June 30.
Pakistan collected Rs1,567 billion under the Petroleum Development Levy (PDL) until June 2026 against a target of Rs1,468 billion, exceeding the target by Rs99 billion, sources said.
The Finance Ministry sources said Pakistan has achieved most of its economic targets.
If the negotiations are successful, the fifth tranche for Pakistan could be approved, sources said.
