PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor has convened a special security meeting in Peshawar to review the province’s overall security situation and terrorism threats following the imposition of an emergency.
The meeting was attended by members of the Council of Advisers, the chief secretary, adviser for tribal and home affairs, inspector general of police, senior police and Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) officials, and personnel from intelligence agencies.
The council was briefed that the situation across the province remained peaceful and normal following the imposition of the emergency earlier today.
The meeting reaffirmed the commitment to further strengthen the police, CTD and other law enforcement agencies in the fight against terrorism. It was also decided that issues affecting the operational capacity of law enforcement agencies would be addressed on a priority basis.
Participants paid tribute to the security personnel who had sacrificed their lives for the country and expressed solidarity with their families.
The governor said he and his council would remain available at all times to provide every possible assistance to law enforcement agencies and security forces.
He reiterated that the fight against terrorism would continue with full force and determination, adding that the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa would stand alongside the security forces.
The meeting also reaffirmed that the people of KP completely reject the Khawarij and their facilitators.
The governor has convened the first meeting of the provincial Apex Committee for tomorrow to review the overall security situation and terrorism threats in the province.
