ISLAMABAD: Federal Energy Minister Awais Leghari has said that the new electricity trading system has been launched, now the government won’t buy electricity and consumers will be able to buy electricity on choice.
Energy Minister said that now the power producers and consumers would themselves sell or buy the electricity under the Competitive Trading Bilateral Contract Market (CTBCM) system.
Leghari said that in last two years work has been made to supply cheaper electricity to consumers and fundamental reforms have been introduced in the power sector.
“The new power trading system will be based on transparency, which will first be implemented in industrial sector or to large power consumers,” power minister said.
He said in coming years the competitive market framework the consumers will be able to purchase electricity on a bilateral basis, allowing them to negotiate power supply arrangements.
“Now the government won’t purchase electricity to sell the consumers on the price of its own choice,” Awais Leghari said.
The minister earlier in a statement said that the competitive power market would move Pakistan beyond its traditional single-buyer electricity system and introduce greater choice and competition into the power sector.
