Muhammad Shehzad set a new national record on Thursday, racing to the fastest first-class century by a Pakistani batter in just 49 balls.
He broke the record previously held by former Pakistan captain Misbah-ul-Haq, who had scored a 56-ball century against Australia, a mark that had stood as the fastest first-class hundred by a Pakistani batter.
The Pakistan Television (PTV) batter reached the milestone during a third-round President’s Trophy Grade-I fixture against Kingsmen Academy at the Diamond Cricket Ground in Islamabad.

Shehzad’s blistering innings eclipsed the previous mark of 56 balls, set by former Pakistan captain Misbah-ul-Haq against Australia.
The 22-year-old struck 12 fours and eight sixes on his way to three figures, before eventually being dismissed for 114 off 62 deliveries.
His century is now the eighth-fastest in first-class cricket history.
Thursday’s knock was Shehzad’s sixth first-class century and proved a key contribution as PTV built their total on day one of the match.
Mohammad Taha also impressed with 43 off 72 balls, striking six fours, while Sharoon Siraj made 16 from 46 deliveries.

Yasir Khan (13), Ammar (5) and Waqar Hussain (2) made smaller contributions as PTV were 239-6 after 48 overs when play was interrupted for reporting purposes, with Taimur Khan (31) and Ammad Butt (4) unbeaten at the crease.
The President’s Trophy Grade-I continues, with Shehzad’s innings among the standout individual performances of the competition so far.
