KARACHI: The menace of heavy traffic accidents continues unabated in Karachi, destroying yet another family on Friday morning as a speeding water tanker ran over two people at the Singer Roundabout in the Korangi Industrial Area, ARY News reported, citing rescue sources.
Rescue sources stated that one of the victims died in the horrific accident, while the other was critically injured. The deceased and injured were later identified as a father and son.
Following the incident, enraged local residents set the water tanker on fire.
Both victims were shifted to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC), Karachi. Meanwhile, the tanker driver fled the scene immediately after the crash.
Police summoned fire brigades to douse the flames and registered a First Information Report (FIR) regarding the accident. Raids are currently underway across various areas to apprehend the fleeing driver.
Three people were killed on the spot after a speeding car crashed into individuals standing along the roadside near Sakrand in Nawabshah, police said on Thursday.
According to Nawabshah police, the accident occurred near Sakrand. The bodies of the victims were shifted to a hospital for further procedures.
Police said further details regarding the circumstances surrounding the accident are being ascertained.
Last month, a 17-year-old boy was killed and another was injured after a speeding dumper crushed them near Korangi No. 3 in Karachi.
According to initial reports, the dumper ran over the teenagers, killing one of them at the scene and injuring the other. Following the incident, a large number of residents gathered on the road and began stopping other dumpers passing through the area.
Tensions escalated as some members of the crowd attempted to set the vehicle on fire. Police intervened and prevented the situation from escalating further.
Korangi police later arrived at the scene and safely removed the dumper driver from the crowd. The driver was subsequently taken to the police station for questioning.
Police officials said that the crowd had attempted to attack the driver and wanted to set him on fire along with the dumper.
