LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif on Saturday shared a video showing a petrol pump employee slapping a man who had allegedly assaulted him after being asked to stop smoking at a petrol station in Lahore.

The incident took place in Jubilee Town, where the man assaulted and threatened the employee for asking him not to smoke at the petrol pump due to the risk of fire.

According to Lahore DIG Operations, police registered a case on the affected employee’s complaint and launched an investigation.

During the inquiry, investigators discovered that the vehicle was rented. The suspect was identified through rental records and receipts and subsequently arrested.

Police said the suspect fled the scene after assaulting and threatening the employee. He was arrested following a police operation, during which he reportedly resisted arrest. A weapon was also recovered from his possession, according to police.

Maryam Nawaz shared footage of the arrest on social media platform X. The video also showed the petrol pump employee slapping the suspect when he was brought to the police station.

“This is a tight slap in the face of those entitled, spoiled brats who look down upon the poor as if they were lesser human beings,” Maryam Nawaz wrote while sharing the video.

She said such individuals arrogantly believed that money and power placed them above the law, allowing them to exploit and intimidate others without facing consequences.

“Let me make one thing absolutely clear: As Chief Minister of Punjab, I stand firmly with the oppressed, regardless of how powerful their oppressors may be,” she said.

“No amount of wealth, influence, or political connections should enable anyone to escape accountability. Justice is not a privilege reserved for the rich and powerful; it is a fundamental right of every citizen,” she added.

The chief minister further said that no one was above the law and that no victim should have to fight alone because the alleged perpetrator had money or influence.
