K-Electric has said that unpaid electricity bills in Allahwala Town, Korangi Crossing, have run into millions of rupees, while combined technical and commercial losses in the area have exceeded 60 percent.
A K-Electric spokesperson said the losses were caused by electricity theft and non-payment of bills.
Despite repeated campaigns to remove illegal connections (Kundas), and efforts to improve bill recovery, residents in the area continued to engage in electricity theft and default on their bills, the spokesperson said.
The utility said it was working closely with law-enforcement agencies and local representatives to recover outstanding payments, adding that bill recovery was essential for ensuring a reliable electricity supply.
The duration of load-shedding in the area depends on the level of electricity theft and bill recovery, the spokesperson added.
