Minor girl seriously injured in classroom attack by male student

Panchkula school incident

PANCHKULA: A six-year-old girl was seriously injured after she was assaulted by an eight-year-old Class 3 student at a government school in Haryana’s Panchkula district, police said.

CCTV footage of the incident has sparked widespread shock and outrage, with social media users expressing anger over the boy’s alleged brutal and violent behaviour.

According to Indian media reports, the incident took place on the afternoon of October 28. The girl was initially taken to Civil Hospital in Sector 6 before being referred to the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) in Chandigarh, where she is undergoing treatment for serious injuries.

According to a complaint filed by the girl’s father, the eight-year-old boy allegedly lured her into an empty classroom on the first floor of the school, where he slammed her head against a bench, kicked her repeatedly and struck her head and face with a brick.

The girl’s family alleged that she was also attacked with a stone, flower pot and dustbin before being dragged across the floor. She was reportedly found unconscious and bleeding.

According to police, the incident came to light when the girl failed to return after school hours. The auto-rickshaw driver informed her father, who arrived at the school to look for her.

The boy told the father that the girl was lying injured in a room on the first floor, following which the family rushed her to hospital.

Police have recorded the father’s statement and questioned the other child and his family as part of the investigation.

Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Vikram Nehra said the boy was undergoing a medical assessment. He explained that such assessments are conducted in cases involving children aged between seven and 12, with further action to be determined based on the findings.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) Amrinder Singh confirmed that the boy was eight years old and the girl six.

Police are also questioning school authorities and examining CCTV footage to establish the sequence of events.
