KARACHI, August 24, 2026: Mir Raza Ali’s father, Mir Hussain, has questioned the formation of a judicial commission and demanded answers over the delay in forming a joint investigation team (JIT) into his son’s death, ARY News reported.
“Tell us who the killer is. Why is a JIT not being formed?” Mir Hussain asked.
He said Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab claimed to stand with the family, but his actions did not show the same.
“Tell us why the JIT is not being formed,” Mir Hussain said while addressing Murtaza Wahab.
He questioned why hurdles were being created in the formation of the JIT.
“We trusted you. You should trust us and form the JIT,” Mir Hussain said.
Mir Hussain also alleged that hurdles were created during the exhumation and that the panel was changed overnight.
He said the family had been demanding a JIT but had not been taken into confidence over the matter.
Murtaza Wahab urges Mir Raza’s parents to trust judicial commission
Earlier, Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab urged Mir Raza’s parents to trust the government, saying the judicial commission was formed to ensure justice in the case.
Speaking to the media in Karachi, Murtaza Wahab said they would decide the next course of action after the judicial commission submits its report.
He said that on August 19, the lawyer had written to the chief minister, stating that the home minister, inspector general and police had completely failed and requesting an internal inquiry against the police.
Murtaza Wahab said if the family wanted the facts to come out, it should allow the judicial commission to complete its work. Otherwise, they should say whether they also had objections to Justice Umar Sial.
He said there was no concept of a JIT in normal criminal cases. The judicial commission would send all fact-finding to the government within 30 days, he added.
Murtaza Wahab said Mir Raza’s family had expressed confidence in the existing investigation team. On the family’s request, Siraj Lashari was included in the team.
He said the family had also requested forensic examination of evidence in Punjab, which was being carried out.
The Karachi mayor said the family was now saying that the first and second investigation teams, as well as the police chief, were not satisfactory. He said the family would be satisfied with the report of the judicial commission headed by Justice Umar Sial.
Murtaza Wahab said the family had rejected the findings and constitution of the investigation team. Ultimately, justice would be delivered by the courts, he added.
He said he had spoken to Mir Raza’s family on the night of August 9 and morning of August 10. According to him, Mir Raza’s mother had said that a judicial inquiry could always be conducted.
