LAHORE: Following PIMS tragedy, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has directed the administration and all government hospitals to conduct fresh fire safety audits and submit reports within 24 hours.
The chief minister has issued immediate directives to reassess fire safety arrangements across hospitals in Punjab.
In a letter issued in this regard, she directed the relevant authorities to ensure that no compromise is made on fire safety in hospitals.
Under the Chief Minister’s directives, all Deputy Commissioners will review the availability and functionality of fire extinguishers and other firefighting arrangements at teaching hospitals, District Headquarters Hospitals, Tehsil Headquarters Hospitals, Maryam Nawaz Hospitals, and Maryam Nawaz Health Clinics in their respective districts.

The inspection will also cover the availability of emergency exit routes and preparedness to deal with emergency situations, following consultations with Rescue 1122 teams.

According to the directives, a comprehensive report containing information from all districts will be submitted to the Chief Minister by August 27. All Divisional Commissioners will personally supervise the activity to ensure that the initial measures are completed within one week.
Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has also directed the administrations of all hospitals to immediately complete fresh fire safety audits and submit their reports within 24 hours.
She emphasized that there can be no negligence or lapse in ensuring the safety of patients, particularly newborn babies and other vulnerable patients.
