The government of Punjab and traffic police have decided to overhaul the delivery system for driving licence cards, allowing residents to track their licences online in real time.
Under the new system, the postal delivery service will be integrated with the Traffic Police’s Licence Information Management System.
At present, the DLIMS portal allows applicants to check the processing and printing status of their driving licence cards.
Once the new integration is completed, however, users will also be able to see the delivery status and current location of their cards through online tracking.
The system is expected to provide information at every stage of the process, from the point when a licence card is handed over by the traffic police to the post office, through its delivery, to its current location.
Officials said the move was aimed at addressing delays in the delivery of driving licence cards to applicants’ homes.
They said the traffic police had previously faced difficulties in verifying and monitoring delivery-related data.
The authorities have now approached the Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB) to facilitate the integration of the two systems.
Officials expect the upgraded system to improve tracking and transparency, while helping ensure that driving licence cards reach residents within the expected delivery time.
