Apple told CNET in an email that when it launches the iPhone Duo on October 23, the new foldable phone will come with iOS 27.1, skipping iOS 27.
“When iPhone Duo first becomes available on October 23, it will run iOS 27.1,” Apple said. “This version of iOS builds on the foundation of iOS 27 but introduces features that were purpose-built for the new foldable design.”
Since iOS 27.1 includes features made just for the iPhone Duo, and Apple started beta testing iOS 27.2 on September 16, you probably won’t see iOS 27.1 on your device unless you get the iPhone Duo.
The Duo is Apple’s first foldable phone, marking a long-awaited step into a device category that is still fairly niche. Releasing it with a version of iOS made for the foldable design could make the launch easier for buyers who are new to foldable phones.
Apple said that all devices, including the iPhone Duo, will be able to update to iOS 27.2 later this year. This means Apple probably won’t release iOS updates at different times in the future.
Preorders for the iPhone Duo start on October 16.
