ISLAMABAD: Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman has demanded complete withdrawal of the Petroleum Development Levy (PDL) to provide relief to people, while leading the Jamaat Islami’s march to Islamabad against the levy on petroleum products.
The JI protesting against exorbitant prices of fuel and withdrawal of the petroleum levy.
The party called off its protest sit-ins on Sunday as JI workers led by its leader Hafiz Naeem proceed to Islamabad by train from Karachi.
Hafiz Naeem said that the government piling up burden over the people. “We have held five rounds of talks with the government and suggested them the areas where the amount can be slashed”.
He said, the government is not prepared to withdraw from its luxuries. “We will continue our protest until the issue being resolved and march to Islamabad”, JI chief said.
Jamaat Islami chief Hafiz Naeem on Tuesday said that protest would not end until withdrawal of the Petroleum Levy.
“They are offering Rs 25 billion monthly relief but avoiding to take the levy back,” talking to media Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman said.
He said that the government has collected 1567 billion rupees levy on petroleum during the previous year.
