The Indiana Fever issued an update regarding the status of All-Star center Aliyah Boston as the team prepares for Game 1 of their first-round postseason series against the Las Vegas Aces.
Boston played only 13 minutes in Indiana’s regular-season finale against the Minnesota Lynx on September 24 before leaving early, leaving many to wonder if she would be prepared for the postseason.
In the wake of Boston’s early playoff departure against Minnesota, misinformation regarding her injure spread on social media, alleging she tore her ACL (which necessitates surgery) and that her season was over.
Nevertheless, the Indiana Fever said this about her,
Boston has an actual injury to his right lower-leg not a ligament tear.
Head coach Stephanie White explained that the decision to de-activate Boston for the final game was a “precautionary” thing because of a “flare-up” of an existing condition that she’s been managing this year.
The official injury report had her questionable. She is considered day-to-day and there have been reports that she is optimistic about her status for the first round.
Strategic Importance Against Las Vegas
Boston’s floor presence is vital to Indiana’s interior defense and rebounding margin differential when lined up against Nevada’s in the post goddess A’ja Wilson.
In 12 career matchups with Wilson, Boston has averaged robust interior numbers of 16.2 points, 9.3 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game.
If Boston plays limited minutes or is unavailable, the Fever will lean on their depth forwards Monique Billings, Myisha Hines-Allen and Makayla Timpson to help frontcourt depth.
