LAHORE: The National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) Lahore has arrested 36 suspects during raids on illegal call centres targeting foreign citizens, ARY News reported.
According to the NCCIA spokesperson, more than 36 people belonging to a group targeting foreign nationals were taken into custody during raids in Faisal Town and Johar Town.
The suspects were allegedly using dial-up software to defraud citizens abroad. A large number of computers, laptops and mobile phones were recovered during the operations.
NCCIA officials said the seized devices contained dial-up software and data related to fraud.
The agency traced another illegal call centre after conducting a raid at one call centre. The team completed the operation at the second location despite resistance from the security staff.
Several vehicles allegedly purchased with proceeds from crime were also taken into custody during the operation.
The NCCIA said digital evidence was seized and sealed in accordance with legal requirements. The agency said the operation was aimed at protecting Pakistan’s digital and financial reputation.
Earlier last week, the NCCIA had arrested 61 people during a raid on an illegal call centre in Rawalpindi.
According to the spokesperson, the suspects were allegedly collecting money from foreign citizens by threatening them in the name of illegal loan recovery.
Following information about the call centre, the agency conducted a raid at the commercial market in Satellite Town, Rawalpindi, and arrested the suspects from the spot.
During the raid, 71 mobile phones and 155 laptops were also seized.
