Zardari, Shehbaz agree to impose emergency in KP

The President of Pakistan, Asif Ali Zardari, and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif have discussed the country’s overall political and security situation during a meeting at the President’s House in Islamabad, according to an official statement.

The two leaders agreed to impose an emergency in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP).

The prime minister has convened a federal cabinet meeting for tomorrow, 11 October 2026, where approval will be sought for the imposition of an emergency in KP.

A session of parliament’s two houses, the National Assembly and the Senate, has also been called on 13 October 2026 to seek approval for the emergency.

The federal cabinet is expected to approve the imposition of the emergency on Monday.

Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, the Attorney General, the law and justice minister, Rana Sanaullah, and Senator Ahad Cheema attended the meeting.

Sherry Rehman, Naveed Qamar, Saleem Mandviwalla and Dr Asim assisted President Zardari during the meeting, according to the statement.
