CHINIOT: A alarming report has revealed that students in as many as 145 government schools in Punjab’s Chiniot district are being supplied contaminated drinking water, ARY News reported.
The affected institutions include 36 high schools, 26 elementary schools, and 83 primary schools located in various areas across the district.
The issue came to light after the District Research Laboratory tested drinking water quality across public educational institutions.
Detailing the findings, District Research Officer (DRO) Irshad Ahmed stated that out of 451 schools tested district-wide, water samples from 145 schools failed safety standards.
According to the DRO, testing evaluated water color, taste, pH levels, and Total Dissolved Solids (TDS).
The report highlighted that while a TDS level of up to 1,000 is generally considered acceptable, TDS levels in the contaminated samples surpassed 2,000, posing serious health risks to students.
