LAHORE: In the second game of the tri-series against England, national ODI squad captain Shaheen Afridi achieved a noteworthy milestone by taking his 150th wicket in One Day International (ODI) cricket. He is now the fastest fast bowler from Pakistan to achieve this feat.
Shaheen Afridi took his 150th ODI wicket in the opening over of the match at Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore by dismissing England’s top opener, Tom Banton.
After scoring four straight half-centuries in his previous four innings, Tom Banton was caught in the cover area off a full-length delivery from Shaheen and had to return to the pavilion.
While famous Pakistani fast bowlers Waqar Younis and Shoaib Akhtar had accomplished this achievement in 91 matches apiece, Shaheen reached the milestone of 150 wickets in his 80th ODI match.
Shaheen Afridi is now the second-fastest bowler from Pakistan to accomplish this feat. Saqlain Mushtaq, a former off-spinner who claimed 150 wickets in 78 ODI matches, is ahead of him.
Shaheen has become the joint fourth-fastest bowler in the world to take 150 ODI wickets.
Notably, Mitchell Starc of Australia collected 150 wickets in 77 matches, whereas Sandeep Lamichhane of Nepal set a global record by accomplishing this achievement in 73 matches.
