A family living in Defence Phase 6, Karachi, has been forced to leave its apartment and move elsewhere after an alleged assault involving an influential woman and police personnel.
The incident took place on 21 August. According to reports, Maryam Ali Raza allegedly assaulted a brother and sister with a dumbbell in the presence of police officers.
She later filed a first information report (FIR) against Ahsan, Noor-ul-Ain and their mother at Darakshan police station.
The mother of the affected siblings, Humaira, has since obtained interim bail from the Sessions Court South in connection with the case.
ARY News has reported that Maryam Ali Raza is a relative of Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Fida Hussain Janwari.
Following the incident, the affected family reportedly left the apartment because of concerns for their safety.
Residents of the area have alleged that the woman, identified as Maryam, also runs the building’s union and prevents other residents from using the lift.
Ali Ahsan, who lived in the apartment with his mother and sister, had also submitted an application to Darakshan police station concerning the building’s management.
In the complaint, he said the family had been living in the building since November 2021.
Ahsan said they had been unable to hire a separate security guard and had therefore installed a security camera. He alleged that Maryam had also threatened to cut off their electricity supply.
He said the family had approached the police over the dispute and requested protection.
